Opinion Outpost’s Tips to Make 2020 the Best Year Yet!

In 2019, self-care was a big trending topic. It’s one that will definitely be talked about more as we start off the next decade.

Whether you already have a busy year ahead, or you’re just taking it day by day, it is important that we stop to take some time for ourselves. So, how can you take care of yourself more this year?

Make time for yourself by taking surveys

Wait, what? That doesn’t make sense. Let us explain!

The new year and the new decade might already look like it's going to be a busy one. Whether you are starting school/university, going back to school, starting a new job, moving house or getting married. These are all exciting milestones in life, but they can also bring a significant amount of stress. This year, take the time to treat yourself, especially when you deserve it. This can be done in the smallest ways. Perhaps a weekend getaway or staycation, treating yourself might be as simple as a nice bubble bath or a weekend spent watching Netflix with no regret. So this is where Opinion Outpost comes in. By sharing your opinions in our surveys you get to earn rewards which you can spend on yourself.

Create a routine

Having a routine can really help to change your day. Whether this is a short morning routine or an extensive night routine, practiced regimes are said to have many positive impacts on our daily lives. Building a routine will not only help you to prioritize and decide what really is important in your day to day activities, but will ultimately help to reduce stress because you are not constantly worrying what needs to be done as it’s already part of your daily habits.

A routine will also help to free up your time, and this is great as it will allow you to have time to focus on the things that make you happy and contribute to your personal self-care. This way you can watch that extra episode of Peaky Blinders or just have an early night, ready for the next day.

Take more breaks

It goes without saying but working too much without a break is not only sure to drive you up the wall, but your productivity is also going to decrease. The efficiency of your work is likely to drop as you won’t be able to focus as well as when you are rested.

Why not try and group the time of your work, using systems like the pomodoro technique, where you set a timer for 20mins of work and 10mins break, 25mins work and 5mins break or 45mins work and 15min break. Having a longer break after every hour or 2.

Half your to-do list

Having a long to-do list and being able to tick things off as you go can be very satisfying, however it can also be harmful to your productivity. It’s a lot better to have a shorter list and complete everything efficiently than a long one where you might only complete a third of the tasks and not great because you are rushing to complete the whole list.

Limit screen time

Don’t worry we aren’t telling you to go completely cold turkey and sacrifice your phone, but it’s not always necessary to check your devices every 5 minutes. Maybe start out by having no screen time in the morning or putting down the phone two hours before your bedtime.

No screen time before you go to bed can help to improve your rest and. Make you feel less groggy in the mornings. Instead why not read a book or journal about your day, meditation is a nice way to end your day and may even help you to drift off.

Maybe you can all up a family member or friend you haven’t spoken to for a while. We know it’s cheating a bit, but at least you’re not scrolling mindlessly through your emails or Instagram feed.

Learn to say “No”

It sounds quite selfish but make 2020 the year you say “no” to the things you really aren’t passionate about or have no real interest in doing.

We don’t mean telling your boss you won’t come in because you don’t want too. More like saying “no” to the blind date your friends are eager to set you up on when you really are not interested in dating. Or maybe not volunteering to help plan an event if you know you don’t have time and will most likely be less helpful.

Learning to say “no” will help make time for the things you are really passionate about and also means you are not giving energy to things that you honestly don’t have the time to put 100% into.

Read more using your rewards

Reading is one of the best ways to calm down and unwind whilst learning something new, whether you’re reading fiction or non-fiction.
