How Oprah lost 26 pounds and made $12.5 million at the same time
Oprah Winfrey is living the dream. In one tweet, the business icon announced she had lost 26 pounds, and within a few hours had earned herself $12.5 million.
Back in October, Oprah spent $43.2 million to purchase a 10 percent stake in the diet company Weight Watchers, according to People Magazine. In addition to buying up stock, Oprah also became a member of the board and a major partner in terms of marketing and promotions. In total, Oprah bought about 6.4 million shares.
"Weight Watchers has given me the tools to begin to make the lasting shift that I and so many of us who are struggling with weight have longed for," Oprah said following the deal. "I believe in the program so much I decided to invest in the company and partner in its evolution."
In a video posted on her Twitter account, Oprah joyfully announced that she had lost a whopping 26 pounds without sacrificing too many of her favorite foods.
"I love bread...I have bread every day," she said in the 30-second clip. According to Get Fit, bread and other grains can be tricky to integrate into a diet, but somehow Oprah has managed to lose weight and still eat bread regularly.
Oprah, who turns 62 this year, looks better than ever, and it seems Weight Watchers was a major player in her transformation.
"That's the genius of this program. I've lost 26 pounds and I have eaten bread every single day," she exclaimed.
Weight Watchers works by assigning point values to different foods as a way of creating balance on a daily basis. Healthy foods are promoted while fast food and other less healthy choices are discouraged. U.S. News and World Reported listed the program as the number one weight-loss diet available.

Big pay day
Oprah's news about losing weight came with an added bonus. Within hours of her tweet, USA Today stated that the value of her stock saw huge increases.
Following the news of Oprah's success, Weight Watchers stock jumped 20 percent and closed the day at $13.29 a share. This boost earned Oprah a smooth $12.5 million at an unbelievable rate of nearly $3 million dollars an hour.
To sweeten the deal, Oprah has a $3.5 million stock option with Weight Watchers, according to USA Today. As a result, Oprah's total haul following her announcement is actually closer to $19.2 million. That comes out to a ridiculous $5 million an hour.
When Oprah initially announced her new deal with Weight Watchers, the excitement generated netted her $70 million in increased stock value. Likewise, a previous announcement saw similar frenzy around the holidays, meaning she is no stranger to the value of a simple announcement.
As it stands, Oprah is in the ultimate sweet spot, and it appears she's having her bread and eating it too. Stay with this blog for more exciting celebrity news.
