Brains and beauty: 7 Ivy League celebrities
When many people think of celebrities, glitz, glamor, beauty and show business talent usually come to mind, but not necessarily academic prowess. There are some truly lucky stars out there, however, who were blessed with both a knack for performance and crazy intelligence. Some stars are so smart that they even graduated from the prestigious Ivy League - a consortium of elite universities based on the U.S. East Coast.
While you may not be be running into these stars on campus anytime soon, keep in mind that you can enjoy their movies or music time and time again with Amazon or iTunes. 1. John Legend
A truly talented musician, John Legend is also incredibly smart. According to Business Insider, Legend is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He majored in English literature, with his research focusing primarily on African-American literature, culture and history. Given his vocal abilities, it should come as no surprise that Legend was also president of an a cappella group known as Counterparts.
2. Mindy Kaling
One of the nation's best-loved comedians, Mindy Kaling is also a critically acclaimed actress, known both for her long-running role in popular sitcom "The Office" and for her work on her own show "The Mindy Project." In addition to being an extremely funny and gifted writer, Kaling is also an ace at academia. She attended the prestigious Dartmouth College is Hanover, New Hampshire, graduating in 2001, Stylecaster reported. She majored in theater - a pursuit which no doubt honed the acting skills we see on screen today.
3. John Krasinski
Another "The Office" alum, actor John Krasinski also attended college in the Ivy League at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, Business Insider detailed. He majored in theater arts, graduating with honors back in 2001 - the same year that cast mate Mindy Kaling received her degree from Dartmouth.
4. Matt Damon
One of Hollywood's most talented A-List actors, Matt Damon is also super book smart. He attended arguably the world's foremost institution of higher education - Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Ranker noted. Despite matriculating at the school Damon didn't actually graduate - he left after receiving his first ever movie role. While dropping out of Harvard is surely a terrible idea for most people, in this case it's safe to say that it worked out!

Star of movies such as "Secretary" and "The Dark Knight" and older sister of fellow A-Lister Jake, Maggie Gyllenhaal is also super brainy. She attended the renowned Columbia University in New York City, graduating in 1999. While at the school she double-majored in English literature and religion, Educate to Advance detailed.
