8 Steps to Help You Succeed at Taking Paid Surveys Online
You enjoy taking surveys, and you have plenty of opinions to share, but can you legitimately make money doing it? The answer is yes. You absolutely can. Is it enough to quit your day job? Probably not (at least not at the beginning!), but you will be able to at least cover your car payment. Simply follow these eight simple steps:
1. Get a PayPal account.
This probably isn't the first step you were expecting, but it is a very important one. Most survey companies pay out via this exclusive service, so sign up for an account ASAP. Don't worry, it's free to sign up and won't take a lot of time.
2. Create a new email address.
If you plan on making this a worthwhile stream of income, you are going to be getting a lot of emails. You could always use your existing email address, but it is easier if you have a new email account just for the surveys.
3. Do your research.
While there are plenty of awesome survey companies out there (Opinion Outpost, anyone?), there is also an abundance of fake ones. It is your job to distinguish between the two. How do you do this? By reading the fine print, FAQs, and following your gut. If a company asks you for money to get started, it's probably a scam.
4. Start signing up.
If you desire any steady income from your survey-taking endeavors, you need to apply for several different companies. The amount of available surveys each company has varies greatly, so if you want to stay busy, you cannot rely on just one. Your goal should be to have at least 10 survey websites on hand.
5. Check your email obsessively.
Now is when the fun begins. You are going to be getting emails, and if you've done the signups correctly, there will be a lot of them. The emails will let you know that a survey is available, how long it should take, and how much it pays. But this is where it gets tricky. Most surveys only allow a certain number of people to take them, and they usually fill up very fast. If you get an email alerting you about an available survey that pays decently, you better click that link immediately.
6. Don't be picky.
In the beginning, you will likely see a lot of low-paying surveys that don't seem worthwhile. These are your test. If you complete them, you will prove yourself and become privy to the higher-paying gigs.
7. Finish the survey.
This is an important step that seems obvious, but you would be surprised how many people don't see surveys through to their completion. Most survey sites will take you to a confirmation page (it usually says "Thank you for completing this survey!") to let you know you have received credit. If you don't see this page, you don't get paid, even if you make it all the way to question 49 out of 50.
8. Get paid.
Before you get too excited, you need to be aware of the minimum amount you need to earn to cash out. An average is about twenty bucks, but some will allow you to collect at five dollars, while others make you wait for fifty. Once you reach the designated milestone, alert the presses and bring out the band, because your wallet is about to be thicker.
