8 great weekend activities for any budget this summer
Even for folks who take paid surveys to make money from home online, finding ways to enjoy some weekend fun without breaking the bank is important. Being clever with your cash with summer vacations looming is essential.
The next time you venture out with friends or family, consider these fun but cost-effective activities:
1. Get in on a pick-up sports game
If the forecast permits, head over to a local park and see if there are any games of soccer or basketball that could use an extra player or two. If not, consider sending out a quick group message and organize a game yourself. As the Simple Dollar pointed out, you'll get fresh air and physical exercise without any expensive gym memberships or league payments.
2. Head to a local state park
Another great way to stretch your legs and enjoy the warm weather is to head to a nearby state park and go for a hike. Usually these outdoor areas are free to enjoy, and offer a whole host of different activities and sights to take in.
3. Have yourself a picnic
Clean out your cupboards or swing by the grocery store before setting up shop in the backyard or at a community green space. Enjoy a great lunch before taking a nap in the sun. Bring along a Frisbee or favorite lawn game like cornhole or ladder golf and enjoy a lazy day.
4. Check out the local paper
Your neighborhood's newspaper is the best place for finding one-time events like an outdoor concert or block party. Odds are there is something cool and exciting going on in your area that can be enjoyed without burning a hole in your pocket.
5. Go window shopping
Even if you have no intention of buying anything, head to the mall or a favorite shopping area in your town for some good old-fashioned window shopping. Consider gifts for upcoming events or perhaps just indulge with an ice cream cone as you wander from store to store.
6. Visit the zoo or museum
As Life Hack reported, many cities have zoos, museums or other institutions that are either free to the public or ask for a minimal entrance fee. This is perfect for a family adventure, but even older crowds can still enjoy a day at the zoo or an art gallery.
7. Take a stroll downtown
Whether it's down by the water or among the skyscrapers, simply heading for a walk through town can be a great way to spend a weekend afternoon. Take in the sights and sounds of the city, visit a favorite lunch spot or investigate some of your town's historical sites.
8. Hit the beach

A trip to the beach is a fantastic way to spend a summer day, and it doesn't have to be a major ordeal. Find a lake or strip of sand nearby and pack up the car. It may not be as glamorous as your future vacation, but even an afternoon at a less well-known beach can be very rewarding.
