5 easy ways to make some cash to pay for a summer vacation
Summer vacation is right around the corner, and folks around the country are likely planning trips to a lake house, to the beaches or even abroad. Unfortunately, a quick weekend trip can become expensive, even if you've selected a location off the beaten path. For that reason, coming up with a way to make some extra cash is important, and even if you don't anticipate an expensive vacation, the following ideas are a good way to earn money to pay for some extras during your trip.
1. Clean out the attic
According to Signs.com, garage sales are a multimillion-dollar venture in the U.S. The site found that the average price of an item at a garage or tag sale is just $0.85, but by moving enough product, you can still make some coin for your upcoming trip.
While old household goods might be able to bring in a few dollars, parting ways with old furniture or electronics may be the better way to go. Check out your attic, basement or family storage locker and see if there are some items that would fetch a good return. By using sites like eBay or Craigslist, you can sell your old stuff without having to throw a Saturday morning garage sale.
2. Get involved in the community
Forbes reported that another easy way to make some money on the side is to look for places in your neighborhood to get involved. Between babysitting and dog walking, you and a friend or two can spend a few weekends trying something new and getting paid in the process. Checking in with a local community center or sports league could yield a coaching job, which is a fun way to make some extra cash before your summer vacation.
3. Check out the classifieds
Getting involved with your community is a very nice way to earn some money, but checking the local classifieds can be a means of finding one-time jobs that pay relatively well. Families may pay for extra help when moving or cleaning up the yard, and odds are there's a long list of odd-jobs in your neighborhood that can provide some extra cash.
4. Utilize a special skill
For anyone who plays an instrument or is involved in the arts, it may be possible to book a few gigs or sell a few personal pieces ahead of your summer vacation. Even writing skills can be compensated, as many companies pay to provide content for a blog or website. By asking around town or looking online, you may be able to find opportunities to get paid for a special skill.
5. Take paid surveys online
Perhaps the easiest way to make extra money before a summer vacation is to take paid surveys with Opinion Outpost. Users can make money from home online by taking a few polls about everyday products and services.
