5 Awesome Jobs for Stay-at-home Parents
You are lucky enough to get to stay home with your kids, and you wouldn't trade the opportunity for anything. But that doesn't mean the bills stop coming, and you suddenly don't need food to survive. Luckily, there are a lot of ways that you can earn an income while getting to spend the day with your kids, giving you the best of both worlds.
Monetize Your Hobbies
Does sewing ease your mind? Are you an expert hair bow maker? Do you enjoy creating your own jewelry? Why not turn your natural talents into a moneymaking opportunity? With the help of Etsy or eBay, or even a local flea market, you can sell your own handmade items with very little upfront costs. As you start filling orders, people will begin talking about how gifted you are, and before you know it you will have more sales than you can keep up with (which is a good thing).
Become a Freelancer
If you aren't exactly the crafty type, you surely have another skill that you can turn into promising pay. Welcome to the world of freelancing. Whether it is photography, writing, graphic or web designing, or even transcribing, more and more industries are turning to freelancers for these specialized jobs. So choose what you enjoy and start doing it for others. You can set your own rates and your own hours, but be prepared to fight tooth and nail for the jobs until you build up a steady client base.
Give Your Opinions
Not looking for a full-on business, but still want to bring in some dough? Why not take some online paid surveys or join some focus groups? There are a lot of great companies out there, such as Opinion Outpost, which will pay you good money to give your thoughts about everything under the sun (and you have plenty of opinions worth sharing!). The best part is that it doesn't require too much brainpower, making it the perfect activity to complete at the end of a long day while you are unwinding in front of the TV.
Throw a Party
Another viable income source is to sign on with a direct sales company, such as Avon, Mary Kay, Tupperware, etc. With these companies, you get to host parties with the intention of selling products (and maybe recruiting others to join you). This job is not for everyone, but if you are good at sales and passionate about the merchandise being sold, they do offer surprising earning potentials.
Bring on the Kids
You are already spending your days watching your own children, so why not add a few more into the bunch? The upside of creating a home-based daycare is that your kids will have friends to play with, while you put some money in your pocket. However, you may have to jump through a few hoops to get set up. Although it varies by state, you will probably have to get licensed and pass a background and child safety check. Once you are up and running, the extra pay will just be an added benefit to all the daily fun you experience.
