3 U.S. travel destinations for anyone on a budget
Now that the weather is nice, getting outside and stretching your legs is a great weekend activity. For more ambitious folks, spring may demand taking a trip to explore a new city. Unfortunately, some of the country's most alluring destinations are also the most expensive. Places like New York, Washington D.C. and Miami can be difficult to get to for anyone on a budget, and while you're there, hotel prices can be equally prohibitive. Even just getting a bite to eat can cost you a pretty penny in some of the most-traveled spots in the nation.
When it comes to planning a weekend getaway that won't break the bank, however, Kiplinger found that there are many cities across the U.S. that are easy to get to and offer affordable amenities. For anyone who has caught the travel bug, taking paid surveys with Opinion Outpost is an easy way to reign in the costs associated with taking a mini-vacation. Here are a few spots on the map to check out:
Once one of the most prominent cities in the country and the heart of American industrialism, Pittsburgh has been working hard to reimagine itself following the collapse of the steel industry and the shrinking market for coal. In the past few decades, the Burgh has become a hub for education, healthcare and science.
The Steel City has also become an unlikely destination for art and culture, but between the Andy Warhol Museum and revitalized communities like Bloomfield and the South Side, Pittsburgh's prowess as a city with artistic flair is growing. That being said, visitors can still enjoy the roar of a Steelers game and take in the timeless architecture of old working-class neighborhoods.
Tampa Bay, Florida
Destination Tampa Bay reported that because the city can be overlooked when planning a trip to the Sunshine State, Tampa Bay is neither as crowded nor as expensive as other Floridian cities. Between the charm of Old Tampa Bay and gorgeous beaches, however, the city has plenty to offer.
Visitors can check out relaxing spas and outdoor cafes as well as family-friendly attractions like the Clearwater Marine Aquarium and Busch Gardens, Tampa Bay has something for every type of vacation. With influences from both the Caribbean and the American South, the music, food and overall feel to the city is unique and intoxicating.
Another spot that may not get the recognition it deserves, Galveston is the premiere place to be for anyone looking for fun in the sun in the Lone Star state. According to Trip Advisor, there are all sorts of colonial era landmarks to visit, and the beachfront can't be beat.
Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark really makes this city special - it's one of the most famous places in the U.S. for wet and wild family fun. The park's website boasts a number of different accolades, from tallest water coaster to a number of awards for environmental efforts and consistently high ratings.
